Deliciousness of Healthy Aging with Anpanman♪

Anpanman is one of the most popular anime character in Japan. He is a hero who keeps the world as a safe peaceful place for everyone. Besides fighting against the evil force with his courage and love, one unique way that Anpanman saves hungry victims is to feed them his face! His face is made of an Anpan, a bread filled with sweet Azuki bean paste (therefore he is called Anpan-man). Yes, he is a true hero who does not mind sacrificing himself to save others. In fact, this Anpanman’s theme song was used for encouraging people at the time of the Tohoku earthquake disaster in 2011.

Even if the wound in my heart hurts, I am living the moment of now with passion, kindness and smile while savouring the joy of living.

This is the heart of Anpanman and really he is living with a  delicious moment, isn’t he?

Mr. Takashi Yanase is the creator of this national character. Many times during the Second World War, he became faced with the prospect of starvation, which made him dream about eating anpan. This inspired the creation of the Anpanman character. When he started drawing Anpanman, he was 50 year-old yet Anpanman was not popular at all for a long time. For almost two decades, he still kept drawing it diligently to not give up as he believed keizoku wa chikara nari (perseverance is strengths).

Thanks to his effort, Anpanman has become a very much loved-cartoon character not only in Japan, but also in the world, by bringing heart-warming stories.

Well, that’s the amazing catoonist, Mr.Yanase!  Do you know how old he is now? He is currently in his 90’s and still working diligently as he enjoys his health and creativity, contributing to lots smiles in the world!

Isn’t that amazing??

As I am teaching a class on Healthy Aging at Canadian School of Natural Nutrition right now, this is a hot topic for me. What is the secret of healthy longevity?

Genetic? Or a healthy diet?

According to the study by Dr. Levy from Yale University, the perceptions held by people about aging proved to have more impact on how long they would live than did their blood pressure, their cholesterol level, whether they exercises.

The People who had positive perceptions of aging lived an average of 7.5 years longer than those with negative images of growing older!

Indeed, Mr. Yanase says

There is no manual for how to live after the age of 80. Senescence is an unexplored territory of life. Every day, living is becoming interesting more and more as if I am adventuring the world of unknown.

That sounds fun and exciting, doesn’t?

Well, it looks like the ultimate secret of healthy aging is in our mind.

How would you like to age? How about flourishing more with delicious moments in your life?
